Lida Eleanor Barker Kaiser

2/7/2017

Picture
Lida Eleanor Barker Kaiser passed away peacefully, February 7, 2017. She died in her home at the Hamilton Club, in Morris Run, PA, surrounded by her family. Her struggle with cancer was mercifully brief.  She was 74 years old.
Lida was born in Aliquippa, PA on November 14, 1942. Her parents were Charles and Myrtle Klages Barker.
She majored in Home Economics at Mansfield University. After graduating, she met John Kaiser at a ski club party and married him shortly afterwards, on June 25, 1966, in Aliquippa, PA.
As a young woman, Lida spent several years teaching at public schools and working as a director at Head Start.
Lida and John bought the Hamilton Club in 1970. Lida was the inexhaustible head chef, master gardener, and chief bottle washer at the club for 46 years. More than just a private dinner club, the Hamilton Club became a home away from home for its many friends and members.
In addition to being a wonderful caregiver to her husband and sons, she opened her doors and heart to many friends, travelers, and foreign exchange students from all over the world

.     One of Lida’s passions was gardening, and she created an exquisite garden in the land surrounding the club. She brought a wealth of beauty, good food, and happy times to the world. Her passion for books and ideas led her to volunteer for the Blossburg Memorial Library for many years. Her love of her gardening and the library came together in the library’s annual Garden Party fundraiser which she masterminded year after year.
She will be remembered for her energy, her playfulness, her generosity, and her infinite capacity for love. She will be missed.
She was preceded in death by siblings Charles, Donna, and Thomas.
She is survived by her husband John;  sons Ian and Kiernan; grandchildren Nell, Wren, Morgan, Tula, and Sullivan, and sister, Betty.
   There will be no service.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Lida can be made to the Blossburg Memorial Library at 307 Main Street, Blossburg, PA 16912
Arrangements have been entrusted to Freeberg Funeral Home, Blossburg. On line condolences may be made at www.freebergfh.com
