Lewis O. Tillotson

7/9/2016

Lewis O. Tillotson, 93, of Lowman, NY, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, July 9, 2016 from the Chemung County Nursing Facility.  He was the loving husband of the late Jean W. (Slocum) Tillotson who passed away September 28, 2010.  The couple married July 31, 1943 and had 67 happy years together.
Lew was born February 17, 1923 in Canton, son of the late Paul E. and Maude B. (Wilcox) Tillotson.  He was one of our few remaining World War II veterans, serving in the US Army in the European Theatre. Lew was a farmer and for many years was the stone cutter for Troy Marble & Granite Works, Troy.  He was Baptist by faith and was an Awana leader and church deacon.  Lew was also an avid fisherman and coin collector.
Lewis is survived by his children: Bob and Toni Tillotson of Lugoff, SC, Gloria and Peter Brown of Pine City, NY, and Kathleen Benjamin of Elmira, NY, six grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren, two sisters: Anna Lee Wright of Waverly, NY, and Ella Mae Yaggie of Canton, PA, along with several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Jean, his daughter Rebecca Sue Philippi, his grandson John Robert Tillotson, his brothers: Morrell, Leon, William, and Dean Tillotson, and his sisters: Aletha Wright and Ernestine Herman.
Family and friends gathered from 1:00-2:00 pm on Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at the Roberts Funeral Home, Inc. 279 Main St. Wellsburg, NY.  The funeral service to honor Lewis’s life was held at the conclusion of the viewing at the funeral home with Rev. James Mott officiating.
Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery with military honors given.
Memorial contributions may be made in Lewis’s memory to Gideons International P.O. Box 140800, Nashville, TN 37214-0800 or to the charity of your own choosing. Send Condolences At:
