Born March 10, 1933 at the family’s home on their dairy farm near Windfall, PA, Leon Fred Shedden was last surviving of eight children in the family of the late Fred and Lou (Hawthorne) Shedden.
He attended the Windfall School and graduated from Troy High School in 1951.
On Oct. 23, 1953, Leon married the former Jean Carolyn Ayres at Alba’s First Christian Church. They shared 55 wonderful years together and raised five daughters. He now joins his beloved Jean who predeceased him on Jan. 8, 2009.
Leon was a member of Windfall’s United Methodist Church and a 65-year member of the Windfall Grange 257. Blessed with a strong work ethic throughout life, work always came first at the Shedden home.
Leon remained active and his memory engaged right up to the time of his death.
Surviving are his children; Carolyn (Ron) Yanchuk, Troy, Barbara (Roger) Kingsley, Columbia Cross Roads, Diane Shedden and Connie (Marty) West all of Granville Summit and JoAnn (Rich) Spencer of Erin, NY; grandchildren, Bradley Yanchuk, Jenny Alderfer, Julie Kingsley, Blake Carlson, Danielle Carlson, Morgan West, Walker West and Devin Spencer; great grandchildren; Savannah, Jacob, Jessie, Haven, Carly, Auden and most recently, Leon James and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and friends.
He was predeceased by his wife Jean and sisters; Lillian Cole, Marcella Shedden, Gertrude Wright, Neva McMurray and infant Elaine Shedden and two brothers; Lial and Lloyd Shedden.
Calling hours are 11 to 1 p.m. Thursday, May 11, at Pepper Funeral Home 578 Springbrook Dr. in Canton. Rev. Jasper Smith will officiate the funeral service at 1 p.m. followed by burial in Windfall Cemetery.
