Born February 21, 1926 in LeRoy Township she was the daughter of Luther and Ruth (Crofut) Merrick. Leah graduated from Canton High School with the class of 1945. She was married to Donald Stabley, with whom she raised two sons and two daughters. Don passed away in 1969.
Later she married James Hardin, with whom she raised two additional daughters. Jim passed away in 1989.
Leah also worked extensively outside of the home, serving in the restaurant business for fifty years, retiring from Harland's Family Restaurant of Wellsboro in 1995. She was a hard working woman who always put her family’s needs first. Leah was also a woman of faith, and enjoyed the Christian fellowship of the Free Methodist Church in Wellsboro.
She is survived by her sons David (& Kathy) Stabley of Albuquerque NM, and Rodney (& Marilyn) Stabley of Pueblo, CO, daughters Sandra Nowakowski of Liberty, Dawn (& Bruce) Keith of Greenville, Miss., Stephanie (& Wayne) Fundersburg of West Memphis, Ark. And Melissa Hardin of Conroe, TX, brother George Merrick of Mansfield, as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents and two husbands, she was preceded in death by her brother, Llewellyn Merrick and sisters Verna Maynard, Edith Wood and Minnie Snell.
Visitation will be 10 to 11 am September 10 at Morse & Kleese Funeral Home, 94 N. Center St., Canton, with services to follow at 11. Interment will be in Beech Flats Cemetery. (morseandkleesefuneralhome.com)
