LaVerne was born September 3, 1920 in Elmira, NY son of the late John H. & Dora (Sheives) Eighmey. He was married to the former Martha J. Wheeler Eighmey who predeceased him.
LaVerne was a veteran of the U S Army serving his country from 1942 to 1946 during WW II as Airplane Mechanic. He worked on C-4, C-47, A-26 aircraft and B-24 bombers servicing their hydraulics.
He was retired from Eighmey Buick where he was a mechanic and Service Manager for many years. He enjoyed playing cards, playing the lottery, 3-D puzzles and after retirement was a driver shuffling cars for the dealership. He was a member of the Troy American Legion.
Survivors include sons, Hal Eighmey, Columbia Cross Roads, Steven & Maxine Eighmey, Breesport, NY, Ronald Eighmey, Columbia Cross Roads; daughter Rosi & Richard Morgan, Troy; daughter-in-law, Deborah Eighmey, Columbia Cross Roads; nine grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins and a special niece Irene Winterstein.
LaVerne was predeceased by his wife Martha, a daughter Priscilla, son Larry, siblings, Jerome, Velma, Bernal, and Verle.
Family and friends are invited to call from 1 to 2 PM Thursday, July 9, at the Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral Home, Inc. 1093 West Main Street, Troy, PA 16947. LaVerne’s funeral service will be held at the conclusion of calling hours at 2 PM with Rev. Mickey Cavanaugh officiating.
Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Glenwood Cemetery, Troy. Memorials in LaVerne’s name may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
