On Sunday, Nov. 11, 2018 Judith Mae (Swartzentruber) Hess of Canton, Pa. went home to be with the Lord while at Robert Packer Hospital. She was 69 years of age. Born May 6th, 1949 in Lancaster, Pa. She was the daughter of Earl and Delilah (Kauffman) Swartzentruber. On July 31, 1971, she married H. Laverne Hess. Together they raised four sons and a daughter and shared 35 years until Laverne’s passing in March of 2007. Although committed to the responsibilities of raising a family, Judy still managed to find the time to contribute to the well-being of others. Her selfless concern for people led her to implement the GriefShare Ministry at her home church, as well as Women of Grace, a community support group for widows. She also served many years as a volunteer at the Pregnancy Care Center in Canton. Judy also served as secretary for Dr. Nick Spano. She was a strong, independent woman who loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, and never thought twice about flying out to Colorado to visit with loved ones there. She also enjoyed both flower and vegetable gardening. But most importantly, Judy had an unshakable faith in the Lord and the heart of a servant. When Jesus took her by the hand, she went with Him joyously. Judy is survived by her sons, Matthew (& Angela) Hess of Canton, Mark (& Lauren) Hess and Philip (& Mara) Hess, both of Colorado Springs, CO., Benjamin (& Korlissa) Hess of Canton and daughter Caroline (& Chesen) Frey of Colorado Springs, brothers Glenn (& Rosanne) Swartzentruber of Roaring Branch, Daniel (& Audrey) Swartzentruber of Fayetteville, Pa., sister-in-law Josie Swartzentruber and brother-in-law Marlin Ebersole. She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Laverne Hess, parents Earl and Delilah Swartzentruber, brother Earl Swartzentruber, Jr. and sister Doris Ebersole.
