Born July 12, 1932 in Danville, PA, John William, “Jack” to family and friends, was a son of the late Francis and Ruth (Ledger) Spade. After graduating from Danville High School in 1950, Jack served in the U.S. Army as Staff Sergeant during the Korean War. On May 19, 1953, he married the former Yvonne Reichard. He was a graduate of Pennsylvania Hospital School of Nursing, Geisinger School of Anesthesiology and was CRNA certified. Jack was employed by Blossburg State Hospital from 1960 to its closure in 1972. He then worked at Troy Community Hospital and Towanda Memorial Hospital until retiring in 1994.
Jack was a member of Morris Run’s American Legion Post 167 and Troy’s American Legion Post 49 and V.F.W. Post 8675. He was a member of the former St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, Blossburg. Jack was well known for his quick whit and wonderful sense of humor. He and Yvonne especially loved spending time in Myrtle Beach, SC.
He was predeceased by a grandson, Matthew Spade and a brother, Thomas Spade.
In keeping with Mr. Spade’s wishes, services will be private. Burial will be in Woodlawn National Cemetery, Elmira, NY.
