Janice was the daughter of G.H. Monro and Myrtle (Harvey) Monro of Edgewoods Farm in Sylvania.
She was a 1944 graduate of Troy High School and was the class valedictorian. She was a 1948 graduate of Mansfield State Teacher’s College with a degree in Home Economics. While in college, she was an active member of Omicron Gamma Pi, a national home economics honors society.
After graduating, she was the home economics teacher and head of the cafeteria at Canton High School for 2 years.
On June 11, 1949 she married her high school sweetheart, Robert Earl Saxton, Troy, having celebrated 67 years together this year.
On their family farm on the Porter Road they raised three daughters: Sandra (David) Clink of Columbia Cross Roads, Sharon (Greg) Jones of Mansfield, PA, and Clermont, FL, and Susan (Thomas) Evans of Litchfield, NH.
Using her home economics degree and her love of teaching, she founded the Sylvania Sew & Snack 4-H club where she was instrumental in teaching girls how to sew and cook.
She was secretary of Troy Grange #182 for many years until it was disbanded. When her children were older, Earl and Janice were members of the Grand Paraders enjoying modern and western square dancing for 25 years. They enjoyed traveling to various places throughout the U.S. and abroad.
