Jane was born in Coryland, Pa, in the farm home on May 27, 1930, the daughter of Fred and Ruth Benson McClure.
As a young girl growing up near Coryland, she attended the Coryland church where her Christian faith grew and strengthened.
A graduate of Troy High School in 1947, Jane attended the Arnot Ogden School of Nursing in Elmira, NY, receiving her RN in 1950. Jane worked as a nurse in Dr. Brown's office in Troy until marrying Bruce Bresee in 1951.
Bruce brought Jane to his family's dairy farm in Ghent, Pa, where she embraced the roles of farm wife and mother. A keen interest in education and being an avid reader led her to serve as a board member of the Mather Memorial Library and the Bradford County Library. She was a charter board member of the Northern Tier Hardwood Association. Jane was also active with the League of Women's Voters and The Pennsylvania Farmers Association.
Jane's "Farm Story" column in the Daily Review became a favorite in Bradford County. A writer with a personal, easy-reading style, Jane possessed a gift of turning ordinary farm life into stories with a universal appeal. Jane's writing revealed a kind, generous heart and an inquisitive mind which saw profound meaning in daily life and the deeper facets of her Christian faith.
In addition to her parents, Jane was predeceased by her brother, Philip McClure, in 2016.
A memorial service will be held at the North Rome Wesleyan Church, North Rome, PA February 4, with Rev. Philip Wanck and Rev. Theo Griffin officiating.
Interment will be private in the Hornbrook Cemetery, Sheshequin Township, PA.
The family suggests that contributions may be directed to the Mather Memorial Library, P.O. Box 230, Ulster, PA 18850 or to Guthrie Hospice, 421 Tomahawk Road, Towanda, PA 18848 in Jane Bresee’s memory.
