Born April 8th, 1929 in Burlington, PA, he was the son of Leslie and Mildred (Rogers) Brown, and was adopted by Charles and Gladys Tarbox.
Following high school Jack served our country by enlisted in the U. S. Navy. He was stationed aboard a submarine for the duration of his enlistment.
Jack was blessed with a strong work ethic, and after returning to civilian life he worked at several jobs and enterprises.
He was a stationmaster for the Elmira branch of the Pennsylvania Railroad, serving first at Leolyn and later Cowley. Later he was the manager of Meehan’s Gas Station in Troy, owned and operated a combination grocery store and gas station called Jack’s Service Center in Savona and later The Kozy Kitchen along Rt 6 just east of Troy. Jack enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards and in earlier years swimming and bowling. He was a member of the Morris Run American Legion post and Canton Lodge # 429 L.O.O.M. He was an avid New York Giants and Yankees fan and enjoyed wintering at his home in Melbourne, FL.
Most importantly, Jack was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather.
He is survived by his beloved wife, the former Rosanna Kilmer, and they celebrated their silver wedding anniversary last year; sons Larry (& Robin) Tarbox, Canton and Brad (& Maxine) Tarbox, Cogan Station; daughters Jackie Matthews, Canton, Lori “Pooh” Brown, Muncy, Marci (& Randall) Murphy, Georgia, Kim Colston, Alba and Mickey (& Jerome) Castle, Roaring Branch; 18 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his birth parents, Leslie and Mildred Brown, his adoptive parents Charles and Gladys Tarbox, his brother Charlie Brown, son Teddy Tarbox, granddaughter Wendy Warren Tedesco, his first wife Eleanor Carl Schmouder and son-in-law Bart Matthews.
Funeral service was held June 10th, at Morse & Kleese Funeral Home, 94 N. Center Street, Canton with Elder Bruce Hummel officiating.
