On the afternoon of Tuesday, March 10th, 2015, Ida E. (Groover) Gleckner of Canton passed away quietly at Williamsport Hospital, with her beloved family at her side, following a brief illness. She was 70 years of age. Born June 16th, 1944 in Blossburg and raised in Ogdensburg, she was the daughter of Charles and Ada (Brown) Groover.
Ida married her high school sweetheart, Robert V. Gleckner, and together they raised a daughter and two sons. Throughout most of her working life she was a florist and owned and operated Gleckner’s Flower Shop in Canton for thirty years. She enjoyed gardening, as well as cooking and baking. Her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandson all were of paramount importance to her and she put their well-being ahead of her own. She truly was the backbone of her family.
Ida is survived by her husband, Robert, at home, sons Gary (& Tammy) Gleckner of Canton and Lyle (& Shelly) Gleckner of Roaring Branch, daughter Wendy Gleckner, Canton, brothers Charles Groover of Ogdensburg, Ken (& Suzie) Groover of Westfield, and Gerald Groover of Canton, sisters Beverly (& Bob) Smith of Canton, Marlene (& Claude) Christman of Blossburg and Wilma (& Rick) Blasz of Troy, as well as ten grandchildren, one great-grandson, and numerous nieces, nephews & cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Ada Groover.
Visitation will be Friday, 4 p.m. until 5 p.m. at the Canton Mennonite Church, 7 E. Union Street, Canton. A celebration of Ida’s life will take place at 5 p.m. at the church with pastors Darren Peachey and Ben Hess officiating. The family will provide the flowers and suggests that memorial contributions in Ida’s name be directed to the Canton Mennonite Church Building Fund, PO Box 43, Canton, Pa., 17724. Professional services have been entrusted to Morse & Kleese Funeral Home, Canton.
