Helen H. McQueen, 100, formerly of East Smithfield, passed away on Sunday, October 4, 2015.
She was born on May 28, 1915 in East Smithfield, Smithfield Township. Helen was the daughter of Lewis and Bessie (Scott) Harris. She graduated from East Smithfield High School in 1932, Sayre High School in 1933 and Mansfield State Teachers College (now Mansfield University) in 1937. Helen taught school for 25 years, teaching in East Smithfield, Troy Area and Tioga Central, NY schools. She was a member of the East Smithfield Federated Church.
Helen is survived by her daughters Viola (Bruce) Metzger and Marjory (Alfred "Bud") Harris; grandchildren Doris Jean Metzger and Steven (Nicole) Harris; great-grandchildren Anson Harris and Nora Harris and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She is predeceased by her parents, husband Robert L., sister Clara Dorr, brother Allan Harris and infant granddaughter, Elaine Harris in 1975.
At her request, the funeral will be a private graveside service at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremations Services, Inc., Athens. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, East Smithfield.
