Helen (Crandle) Ayres, 91, of Canton, passed away at the Bradford County Manor, February 2, 2015. Born May 2, 1923 in Grover, PA, she was the daughter of James I and Hazel (McKee) Crandle.
Lanier and Helen traveled to Fort Meade, Florida, for the winter for approximately ten years.
Helen was a member of the Ward United Methodist Church, the Wheel Inn and the LeRoy Heritage Museum.
She is survived by daughters, Ann (Tom) Carl of LeRoy; Connie (Bill) Spencer of Granville Summit; Sue (Dan) Bastion of Troy; son, Lanier D. “Bud” (Dorothy) Ayres of Chase’s Mills; son-in-law, Richard E. Porter, Canton; sisters, Marjorie (Max) Thomas and Phyllis Arnold; sister-in-law, Joannie Crandle; grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Alvin Lanier Ayres on May 21, 2005, daughter, Kay Porter, parents, James I and Hazel (McKee) Crandle and brothers Gerald Crandle and LaRue Crandle.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 6 at the LeRoy Independent Baptist Church, LeRoy, with Pastor Ronald Bly and Pastor Jerry Schmidt officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in the Windfall Cemetery.
The family will provide the flowers and suggest that memorial contributions be directed to the Leroy Heritage Museum, 8051 Southside Road, Canton, PA 17724 or to a charity of one’s choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Morse & Kleese Funeral Home, Canton.
