Born in Sayre on September 9, 1935, Harry was one of thirteen children of the late Harry and Ethel Mae (Dodge) Root.
He was a 1953 Graduate of Towanda High School. Harry enjoyed his work as a truck driver for Cummings Lumber of Troy for over 27 years and he was a dependable employee.
He will be remembered for his dedicated work ethic; his delivery customers could always count on him. Harry also had many dear friends as co-workers. In early years, he was a truck driver for East Smithfield Farms and Daily.
Harry married the former Nancy (Raub) Tice on July 3, 1987 in Southport, NY.
Harry enjoyed many interests during his life. He took several fishing and camping trips, was a big NASCAR fan and traveled to races at Pocono and Daytona. Most importantly, he cherished times shared with his beloved family.
Surviving is his wife Nancy, children; Joy Root (Sharon Alamo), Waverly, NY, Jean (Dana) Fay of Bentley Creek, Karen (Doug) Beach, Columbia Cross Roads, Jeff (Mia) Root, Franklindale, Diana (Keith) Siske, Waynesville, NC, Jerry (Beth) Root and Steve Tice all of Columbia Cross Roads, Kim (Roy) Cummings, Troy, Judi (Joe) Chamberlain, Columbia Cross Roads, Julie (Ray) McClure,Troy, Patti (Charlie) Earle, Columbia Cross Roads, Jamie (Jan) Root, Milan, and Vicki (David) Werner, Granville Smt., several grandchildren and great grandchildren; Robert (Sue) Root, Edgewater, FL, Raymond (Joyce) Root, Monroeton, Lois (Boyd) Repsher, Salinas, CA, Donna (Mike) Meckley, East Berlin, PA, Marie "Ann" Root Crawn, LeRaysville, Sheila Root of Waverly, PA, Connie (Ritch) Swetland, Fair Haven, NY and Nancy (Daniel) Arnold, Bumpville; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; Audrey (Ronald) Case, Austinville, Cindy Bellows, Sayre, Mark (Karen) Raub, Nashville, Indiana and Howard Clark, Canton, many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by parents; Ethel in 1967 and Harry Sr. in 1986, siblings; James Root in 1981, Aubrey Dale Root in 1986, Arvilla Mae Root Edwards in 2004 and Linda Jean Root Casselbury in 2010, also a grandson; Ryan Myers in 2003, nephew; James Root in 1991 and sister-in-law; Jane Clark in 1986.
The funeral service was held on Friday, July 22, at Pepper Funeral Home Canton. Mr. Root’s brother-in-law, Dan Arnold and Rev. Mark Tice officiated the funeral service. Burial followed in Glenwood Cemetery.
