Harland A. Harris

8/27/2016

Harland A. Harris passed away Saturday, August 27, 2016 at the Bradford County Manor.
He was a life-long resident of Smithfield Township where he was born on July 17, 1923 to the late Guy and Ethel (Kingsley) Harris.  He was a 1941 graduate of the Smithfield Township High School.  He married the former Angeline Scouten in East Smithfield on August 27, 1950.  They had 66 wonderful years together.
In 1951 they purchased the family dairy farm working side by side.  They built their retirement home together where they lived until he moved to the manor three months ago.  After retiring from a successful career of farming, he worked for the Masonite Corporation and retired from International Paper in 1988.  They spent several years in Florida during the winter.  He was a member of the Jersey Cattle Club, Northeast Dairy Co-op, Smithfield Grange and the East Smithfield Federated Church.  He enjoyed reading, traveling, snowmobiling, motorcycling, golf, working in the woods and family gatherings at the pond.

He is survived by his wife, Angie, their two daughters and their husbands, Beverly and Larry Wright of Canton, Gail and Arthur Forster of King of Prussia, PA; four grandchildren and their spouses, Jason and April Wright, of Canton, Jeffrey and Trisha Wright of Grover,  Andrew and Jennifer Forster of West Chester, PA, and Erin and Mark Troelsch, of King of Prussia; six great-grandchildren, Lily, Kyle, Leah, and Kaleb Wright, and Alex and Carter Forster; brothers-in-law and their wives, Wayne and Marjorie Scouten, LaRue and Mary Parmenter; sisters-in-law, Beatrice Parmenter, Beverly Parmenter, Jeanette Parmenter, and brother-in-law, Burton Scouten plus several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Eugene Harris; brothers-in law LaVern Parmenter, Max Chapman and sisters-in-law, Alice Harris, Charlotte Scouten, and Gladys Chapman.
Abiding with the family's wishes, a private service will be held later at the convenience of the family.
Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home, Inc. is helping the family with arrangements.
