Gilbert Roland, “Gil” to family and friends, was born March 24, 1936 in Binghamton, NY, a son of the late Howard and Helen (Demer) Barrier.
Gil graduated from Vestal High School where he excelled in wrestling. On June 7, 1958, he married the former Phylis Winans.
He was a self-employed logger most of his life. He also was a talented mechanic and a tinkerer, handyman type who could fix anything he set his mind to. Though he usually kept to himself, his family always came first in his life. Gil was a knowledgeable outdoorsman who loved the woods and nature. He also will be remembered as an honest, hard-working man who would help anyone in need.
Surviving is his wife Phylis, a daughter Kimberly Quackenbush of Col-X-Rds;, five grandchildren and six great grandchildren; brother James D. Barrier and several nieces, nephews, cousins, many dear friends and neighbors.
A celebration of Gilbert’s life will be announced by his family at a later date.
