Born June 27, 1936, in Danville, he was a son of the late George L. and Vera (Baumgartner) Hughes Sr. George was a 1954 graduate of Williamsport High School and graduated from Pennsylvania College of Technology with a degree in graphic design and was an avid Penn State fan. He worked for the former C.A. Reed Company until 1993 and later retired in 2000 from Radiant Steel.
Surviving are sons, Timothy A. (Alesandria), Williamsport, Daniel K. (Jana), Canton, Jeffrey L. (Cindy), Cogan Station, and Brian K. Hughes, Galeton; one daughter, Karen M. (Gary) Lose, of Sterling, Va.; one brother, Terry Hughes, of Cogan Station; grandchildren, Kevin Hughes, Ryan Hughes, Christina Bedford, Kerrick Hughes, Jason and Jeffrey Jr. Hughes, Jennifer DiMarco, Carrie, Harleigh, Dakota, Sierra, and Genesis Hughes, and Christopher and Katie Lose; and numerous great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by a son, Charles E. Hughes.
A funeral service to honor the life of George was held Tuesday, Dec. 29 at Knight-Confer Funeral Home, 1914 Memorial Ave., Williamsport, with Pastor Chris E. Pfleegor officiating. Burial followed in Twin Hills Memorial Park, Muncy.
