George Earl Sergeant

 George Earl Sargeant, 72, Davenport, Fl., passed away, June 16, 2017, at his home surrounded by family and close friends.
 He was the loving husband of Karen DePew Sargeant, with whom he celebrated 20 years of marriage. 
  Born in Troy, Pa., George was the son of the late Russell and Frances Sargeant. 
   After graduating from Troy High School in 1963, he enlisted in the Navy and served two years before transferring to the Army, retiring after 20 years. George served in the Vietnam War and received many awards and citations including a Bronze Star.
  In 1966 he married Glenna Wilcox who passed away in 1995. 
  After returning to Troy, George met and married Karen DePew Seeley. They enjoyed traveling together and took many trips all over the country. George was known for the love, compassion and kindness he had for everyone he met. All he came in contact with felt his infectious smile and laughter.
​   George was a member of the Community of Faith Church in Davenport, Fla., but enjoyed his summertime visits to Bakerburg Community Church in Mainesburg, Pa. He was a lifetime member of American Legion No. 49 and the VFW No. 8675 in Troy.         His favorite hobby was his love of people and the time he spent with family. To know George was to love him.
    In addition to his wife, Karen, George is survived by daughter, Amy Sargeant, Indianapolis, Ind.; granddaughter, Pamela Mihalik and her husband Josh; and great-grandson, Jenson. Also surviving are step-daughter, Suzanne VanNoy and her husband Brad, Granville, Pa., and their children, Paige and Tyler (Kaseen), and step-great-grandchildren, Brantley, Josie and Kenzi. Stepson Steven Seeley and wife Deborah, Virginia Beach, Va.; as well as sisters, Rhena Lukawitz, Mt. Joy, Pa., and Nancy Hable and husband Chuck, Elmira, N.Y.
    George was very close to his sister-in-law, Ann Kolb and husband Floyd, as well as brother-in-law Joseph Vineski and wife Karen.
     In addition, his in-laws include Judy Brozowski (Mike), and Ted Vineski (Mickey). George had a very special niece, Jennifer, and nephew, Jon Gustin, who called him Grandpa. His special Tennessee family included Aftin and husband Travis Swearingen, their children Ava and Britt; Amanda Boone her husband Matthew; and Chace Vineski. Finally, surviving are a special cousin, Laurie Licari of Florida, as well as several more nieces, nephews and cousins. 
    In addition to his parents and wife, Glenna, George was pre-deceased by his sister, Marie, and a brother-in-law, Rich Lukawitz.
    Services to honor and remember George will be held at a later date at the National Cemetery in Bushnell, Fla., with full military honors.
    Memorial contributions can be made in George's memory to the Community of Faith United Methodist Church, 9120 Teacher Lane, Davenport, FL 33897.
