Freeman Edwin Johnson, 85, formerly of Hillside Drive, Towanda, PA passed away Monday morning, October 12, 2015 at the Personal Care Home of Memorial Hospital, Towanda, PA. Freeman was born February 21, 1930 in Monroeton, PA the son of Freeman Robert Johnson and Lydia May Hardenstine Johnson. Freeman served in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Korean War. While serving in Germany he met Thea Lilli Huenerfauth and they were married on February 14, 1953 in Ludwigshafen, Germany. In that same year the couple came to the United States to make their home. In early years Freeman was employed by Dean Meredith Motors in Towanda and by Masonite Corporation in Wysox. He later drove school bus, worked in security at GTE Sylvania in Towanda and served as a courier for the First National Bank of Bradford County. Freeman enjoyed arts and crafts. He was a member of Towanda American Legion Post No. 42. Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Monika and Craig Slater of Burlington, step grandchildren, Craig Slater Jr. of Burlington, Jackie Slater of Dryden, NY, sisters-in-law, Gladys Johnson Derr of Durell, Betty M. Johnson of the Personal Care Home of Memorial Hospital, Towanda, Betty H. Johnson of Towanda, Shirley Johnson of Ulster as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Thea on September 10, 2009, brothers, Clayton, Walter, Donald and Charles Johnson and sisters, Freda Goodenow and Arvilla Allen. The funeral service will be held Thursday, October 15, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home 217 York Ave. Towanda, PA with Pastor Donn Hauser of the Independent Baptist Church, Towanda officiating. Interment will follow in Bradford County Memorial Park, Burlington Township, PA with Towanda American Legion Post No. 42 according full military honors.
