Frances Pauline, “Franny” to family and friends, was born May 18, 1921 in her parent’s home near Windfall, Pa. She was one of five children born to the late Paul Stanley and Irene Delight (Watts) Dreste.
Franny graduated from Canton High School with the class of 1938.
Following graduation, she was employed as a housekeeper and later a waitress in a prestigious restaurant in Elmira, N.Y., “where she learned to set a table properly”.
During WWII, Francis was employed by Eclipse Machine in Elmira. It was on June 17, 1944 she married the love of her life, Wilmer “Ben” Edward Kobbe in the Hedding Methodist Church Parsonage also in Elmira. Together they shared 46 years and raised six children before his passing in 1990.
Franny was also employed by; Remington Rand in Elmira, a nurse’s aide for 14 years at the Bradford County Manor and Paper Magic in Troy until retirement.
Mrs. Kobbe was the true matriarch of the family with her main interest throughout life being the love she shared for her beloved family, home and church. Family outings, reunions, Christmas and Easter dinners were always special times. She also enjoyed craft work, reading, square dancing and all flowers. Frances will be remembered for her poems and writing skills and in later years published a book, Keystone Musing and Memoirs.
Surviving Frances are her six children; Ronald (Donna) Kobbe, Edward Kobbe, Richard (Barb) Kobbe all of East Troy, Frederick (Kathy) Kobbe of Virginia Beach, Va., Carol (Steve) Bastion of Alba and Karen (Chuck) Kelly of Port St. Lucy, Fla., grandchildren, Lori, Lisa, Brian, Rick Jr., Steven, Edward, Billy, Crystal, Marie, Junior, Stephanie, Corin, Nerissa and Charmaine, numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, a, sister in law, Ruth Dreste of Victor, N.Y., several nieces, nephews, neighbors and dear friends.
In addition to her husband Ben, Franny was preceded in death by a sister, Freda Salome, three brothers, Herman, Robert, John (Norma) Dreste.
The family received friends on Thursday, May 2, from 10-11:30 a.m. at the Pepper Funeral Home and Cremation Facility, 578 Springbrook Dr. Canton.
The funeral and celebration of Frances’ life followed at 11:30 a.m. with Pastor Ed Danneker officiating. Burial will be held in the Windfall Cemetery.
