On the afternoon of Monday, Nov. 12, 2018, Evelyn (Kilmer) Matson of Canton peacefully went home to be with Jesus, surrounded by her family  while at Bradford County Manor. She was 97 years of age. Born July 27, 1921 in Ellenton, Pa., she was the daughter of Emery and Jennie (Avery) Kilmer.  Evelyn had been employed as a bank teller with the former First National Bank of Canton from 1942 until 1980.   She met her husband, John Matson, on a blind date and on Feb. 11, 1942 they were married. Together, they raised a son and a daughter. Evelyn and John enjoyed square dancing and were active with the Grand Paraders. They also enjoyed camping and wintering in Florida for over 20 years  and shared 57 years until John’s passing on May 8th, 1999. Evelyn was a longtime member of the Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ) in Canton where she was a member of the Crusader’s  Class. She also enjoyed crocheting, knitting and playing cards, and, most of all, entertaining her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Calling hours were held at the Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ) in Canton, followed by a celebration of Evelyn’s life at 1 p.m. Interment will be in Grover Cemetery. The family will provide the flowers and suggests that memorial contributions be directed to the Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ)  170 N.
