Esther M. Weaver, 93, Landis Homes, Lititz, passed away Saturday, February 4, 2017. Born in Bareville, she was the daughter of Noah H. and Esther E. Hoover Groff.
She was the wife of David M. Weaver with whom she would have celebrated 70 years of marriage in March.
Esther was a 1945 graduate of Lancaster General Hospital School of Nursing as registered nurse. She worked as a nurse at the Children’s Hospital in Elizabethtown, and also worked as a private duty nurse.
Esther continued to use her nursing skills in her community by providing allergy shots and general care to her neighbors. She also worked part time at a local nursing home. Her nursing skills came to good use when her husband lost his arm in 1965 in a farming accident.
They moved to Tioga County in the fall of 1957 to help with a mission church in Morris Run. They were members of Canton Mennonite Church, Canton. In 2008, they retired to Landis Homes Retirement Community, Lititz, PA.

Surviving in addition to her husband are: children, Eileen wife of Levi Charles, Leola, Barbara wife of Marlin Hershey, Lititz, Brenda wife of Kenneth Covelens, Lititz, Fred husband of Linda Weaver, Birmingham, Alabama, Carol wife of Donovan Oberholtzer, Lititz, Nancy wife of Lynn Roth, Lancaster, Keith husband of Jennifer Weaver, Harrisonburg, Virginia, D. Michael husband of Amy Weaver, Dillsburg; 19 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; brother, Amos husband of Ruth Groff, Lititz. She was preceded in death by a sister, Marion Groff Wissler.
A memorial service was held from the West Bethany Chapel of Landis Homes, Lititz, PA, Feb. 6. The family will visit with friends following the service. Private interment will be at the convenience of the family.
