Born in Canton on October 31, 1922, Eleanor Mae was the youngest child of the late mTalbert and Marion (Ellis) Snyder. She was a 1940 graduate of Canton High School.
On August 15, 1941, Eleanor married George Harkness. They shared 68 years together before George’s passing on April 17, 2010.
In addition to being a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Eleanor was an active member of the East Canton United Methodist Church, Canton’s Village Improvement Association and Garden Club, Bradford County’s Republican Women and a former member of Canton’s Eastern Star Chapter 71.
She enjoyed tending her flowerbeds and vegetable gardens, quilting, crocheting and many types of crafts. She also loved to travel and was a Cub Scout Leader in earlier years.
Surviving are children, Marilyn Steiger of Wedowee, AL, William and Roxie Harkness of California, Jeanne and Dan Priga of Cranberry Twp., PA , Michael and Michelle Harkness of Troy; 10 grandchildren, Cathie Steiger, Ron Steiger, Travis (Maya) Harkness, Brent (Angel) Maynard, Kate Priga, Michael P. (April) Harkness, Courtney (Taylor) McNett, Katie Campbell (Matthew Goss), Derek (Katelyn) Campbell and Jordan Campbell; 14 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; two brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Arthur and Marie Harkness of Canton and Donald and Shirley Harkness of Monroeton, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her husband George, she was predeceased by a grandson, Steven Harkness; a great grandson, Noah McNett; son-in-law, Thomas Steiger and two siblings, Edward (Lenora) Snyder and Edna Heckman.
Funeral service was held April 17, at the East Canton United Methodist Church with Rev. Dianne H. Bentley officiating.
Burial followed in East Canton Cemetery.
