Edna was born on May 12, 1925 to Lloyd R. and Esther (Huber) Kniffin.
Edna attended Canton schools, graduating from Canton High School in 1943. She received her B.S. in Elementary Education from Lock Haven University in 1947 and taught 1st grade in Quakertown for two years before returning to Canton to teach for the rest of her career, before retiring in 1987. Edna received her M.S. Ed. from Penn State in 1961.
Edna was a member of the Ward Methodist Church, and served as the church organist for many years.
She was also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma sorority, and was active in the Canton Red Hat Society.
After retiring from teaching, she ran the Canton Food Pantry for several years.
Edna was an animal lover, and enjoyed many hobbies including woodworking and stained glass. With friends and family members, Edna traveled to Switzerland and visited Hawaii, Alaska, and many other states in the U.S. She loved to share stories of her adventures, included hot air ballooning and riding a mule down the Grand Canyon. Edna celebrated her 90th birthday by skydiving from a plane in Michigan City, Indiana.
For the past two years, Edna has been a resident of Greenleaf Health Campus in Elkhart, Indiana, where she was able to spend time with her brother Seth L. Kniffin and his family.
Edna was predeceased by her brother, Nelson A. Kniffin.
She is survived by her brother, Seth L. Kniffin, his wife Billie (Ray) Kniffin and children Jacquie Farr and husband Neil Farr of Granger IN; Lynne Williams and husband Steve Williams of Elkhart, IN; Craig Kniffin and wife Rachelle Kniffin of Springfield, IL; and Curtis Kniffin and wife Mary Ann Kniffin of Madison, FL. Survivors also include Maria Kniffin of Canton (Mrs. Nelson Kniffin) and children Mary-Ann Kniffin Reese of Middleton, ID; Alan Kniffin and wife Cheryl Attwood Kniffin of Mountaintop, PA; Josette Bender and husband Harry Bender of Sun City West, AZ; Jacqueline Zangari and husband Tommie Zangari of Sunbury, PA; Anneliese Kniffin-Savchak and husband Michael Savchak of Carmel, NY; and Nicole Billington and husband Jamie Billington of Margate, FL; as well as many grand-nieces and –nephews.
A viewing will take place from 7:00-9:00 on Thursday, July 21 at the Morse & Kleese Funeral Home, 94 North Center Street, Canton, PA.
The funeral service will be at 2:00 on Friday, July 22, followed by interment at Park Cemetery, Canton.
