Born Mar. 22, 1936 in Bowers, Pa., Dorothy Ruth was the daughter of the late Frederick and Beulah (DeLong) Silsdorf. She was a graduate of Kutztown High School and Allentown School of Nursing where she received her Registered Nursing Degree. She was employed by Allentown General Hospital as a maternity nurse, St. Luke’s in Bethlehem, Pa. and in later years was a supervisor at the Bradford County Manor until her retirement. Dorothy was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Towanda, Pa. She enjoyed Nascar racing, blue grass music, puzzles, camping and her special canine friend Mindy. Dorothy was a hard worker and worked beside her husband for many years on their farm. She also was dedicated to her nursing career and took it to heart. She was a “true nurse”, kind, caring, and selfless. Her generosity will always be remembered by many.
Besides her parents Dorothy was predeceased by her Husband of 59 years, Aaron DeWalt on Aug. 2, 2016; a brother and sister-in-law, Ralph (Schirla) Silsdorf; a brother, Lee Silsdorf and two sisters and brothers-in-law; Eleanor (Lloyd) Freed and Shirley (Clifford) Youse.
Visitation was held Friday, Apr. 26 from 12-1 p.m. at Pepper Funeral Home & Cremation Facility in Canton with the funeral service at 1 p.m. Pastor Jira Albers of the Towanda Trinity Lutheran Church officiated the service. Burial followed in Beech Flats Cemetery.
