She was the widow of Hugh L. Wevodau who died Sept 4,1970. Born in Newelltown, PA, Jan 4, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Bert L. and Lulu E (Saxon) McILwain, and step-daughter of the late Fredericka (Newell) MclLwain. She grew up on the family dairy farm in Newelltown graduating from Canton High School in 1944.She enjoyed cooking having worked for Paul’s Place in Williamsport where she met her husband. After their marriage they moved to her husband’s hometown of Harrisburg where she worked for the U.S. Railroad in the Railroad Restaurant. In 1993 she retired after 20 years in Dietary Services at Blue Ridge Haven Nursing Home.
She was a member of the Susquehanna Township Fire Rescue Auxiliary for the years as her husband was an active Fire Rescue member.
She loved taking and sharing pictures, writing letters and sending cards to her family and friends, knit and crocheted, loved nature and animals, attending Statler Brothers concerts, and to tell stories of her family and growing up in Newelltown and Roaring Branch, and made awesome chocolate peanut butter fudge. She was known for her spunk, humor, candor, kindness, and especially in her last years at Jewish Home, for her hugs. She was caring and loving and never lost her sense of humor even as she bravely battled cancer. She was a lifetime member of Newelltown Church, and attended New Hope Church in Harrisburg as well.
Dorothy was predeceased by two sisters Eleanor M. (McILwain) Wooster, wife of Carty, formerly of Roaring Branch, Altheda E. (McILwain) Williams, wife of McKean, formerly of Georgia, and brother Theron O. McILwain and his wives Florence McILwain and Viola McILwain all formerly of Roaring Branch, also three sister in-laws June A.(Wevodau) McClurg, wife of Walter, and Sarah M. (Wevodau) Bender, wife of Henry, and Elsie J. (Wevodau) Chobanoff, wife of John, all formerly of Harrisburg, and her beloved cat Redman.
Surviving are a host of nieces and nephews and their families who she loved dearly, her good friend Henry Walker and his family, longtime friends from the maintenance dept. and others from Chestnut Hill Apts Harrisburg where she lived for over 30 years, and some special friends from her time in Jewish Home.
Due to Covid restrictions, Services will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. Interment will be beside her loving husband in Mt Pleasant Cemetery Siddonsburg, PA. Instead of flowers memorials may be sent to her hometown family Church, Newelltown United Methodist Church, c/o 2229 Joe Hill Road, Roaring Branch, Pa. 17765.
