Born in Gleason on March 21, 1924, Don was a son of the late Clyde E. and Ethel E. (Burkey) Cole. After graduating from Canton High School in 1942, Don began his 44-plus year employment with H. Rockwell & Son Feed Mill in Canton. He married the former Pauline Wilston on September 1, 1945 in Canton. Don was a member of the East Canton United Methodist Church and later enjoyed attending the Fassett Baptist Church. He also was a member of the Buck Horn Hunting Club in Ogdensburg. Don was always willing to help others in need. He enjoyed hunting, camping and traveling. He and Pauline spent several winters in Florida, took many trips to Canada, saw Alaska and visited the West Coast of the United States. The family wishes to thank Woodbrook Assisted Living for the wonderful care and companionship Don received the past year and a half.
In addition to his wife Pauline, Mr. Cole was predeceased by two sons; Gordon V. Cole in 1986 and Gary D. Cole in 1997, his grandson, Craig D. Lloyd in 1995, also brothers and sisters; William C. Cole, Robert L. Cole, Marjorie (Emerson) Hufford, Elizabeth “Betty” (Marshall) Boyd, Mildred (William) Spencer, Helen (Howard) Sendlinger, Mary (Jack) Pine and an infant sister, Evelyn L. Cole
Calling hours and the funeral service were held on Tuesday, March 27, at Pepper Funeral Home and Cremation Facility, Canton. Rev. Duane Taylor and Rev. Jasper Smith officiated the funeral service.
Burial will be in Grover Cemetery at a later date.
