He was born on July 6, 1918, in Geneva, NY, the son of the late Galusha and Tressie York.
He attended grade school in Elk Run, Tioga County, PA, and High School in Geneva, NY.
He was a member of the Columbia Cross Roads United Methodist Church. In earlier years, he was a member of the Sylvania Presbyterian Church, where he served as a Trustee.
He was a former member of the Sylvania Lions Club, where he served as a director.
Don enjoyed playing baseball and softball for local teams in his younger years and enjoyed hunting, making maple syrup, bee keeping and cutting wood. He was named honorary "Old Sportsman" in 2002.
Don was deeply loved by his family. His sense of humor, wit, love of poetry was passed onto his family, and will be cherished for generations to follow.
He retired from Judson's Feed store in Columbia Cross Roads where he worked for 33 years.After retirement, he loved helping out on the Clark farm on Porter Road.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Audrey Elizabeth Haven York. In addition to his wife, and parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Ted York, Robert York, and sister Helen Christensen.
Surviving are daughter, Audrey Kendall (Dowain Nielsen), Troy; Donald W. (Donna) York, Troy; grandchildren: Terry (Perry) Bridges, Jay (Mary) Kendall, Stacy (Kevin) Boyle, Mathew (Susan) York; great-grandchildren: Robert Bridges, Caroling Bishop, Taylor Bridges, Krista Kendall, Coty Kendall, Abbigale Young, Madison York, Molly York, Shelby York.
In keeping with Don's wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral. Interment will be in the Glenwood Cemetery in Troy at the convenience of the family.
