He was born August 15, 1944 in Troy, PA to Laurence and Beatrice Fleming. He was involved in many activities as a child and graduated from Troy High School with honors in 1962. He then attended Mansfield University studying Math Education. There he met his future wife, Sandra.
After he graduated in 1966, he and Sandra were married and moved to Pittsburgh. He taught mathematics for 3 years in the Pittsburgh Public Schools. After that, he moved to working at Upper St. Clair high school where he taught for 33 more years.
Besides teaching, he coached track, intramurals and was the faculty manager for sports, and lead many clubs and activities. After his retirement in 2002 he was installed in the Upper St. Clair High School Academic Hall of Fame for his outstanding teaching and creative educational ideas.
Outside of school he was very active in local and state mathematics organizations. He held many offices and was on the executive boards of both. In 2009 he was elected to the PA Council of Teachers of Mathematics Hall of Fame.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sandra Fleming. Together they had one son, Charles Jr. (Shelli). He is also survived by two grandchildren, Sara and Harrison, and his siblings, Elwin and Kathy Seeley. He is preceded in death by his loving parents, and his three brothers, Fred, Clifford, and William.
