
Charles Elwin was born May 24, 1933 in Canton, the only son of the late Elwin Emerson and Grace Eleanor (McKee) Porter.
As a young man he attended Canton Area School and graduated with the class of 1951.
He later acquired his family’s dairy farm in the beautiful country side of Union Township. Charles was a hard worker and saw to the dairy’s daily operation until handing the tradition down in 1996 to his son, Dennis.
Charlie enjoyed hunting, especially with family. He was a true sports enthusiast and loved to watch his grandchildren play sports. Charles was an avid Orioles fan. He and family attended ball games in Baltimore since 1966.
Surviving are his two children, Diane (George) Cashell of Shippensburg, Dennis (Mary Ann) Porter of Canton, grandchildren, Lindsey (Kevin) Rathbun of Canton Shane (Amanda) Porter of Long Valley, NJ, Trisha McIlwain of Liberty, William Jordan (Brittany) McIlwain of Wellsboro, a grandson in law, Jon Brackman of Canton, great grandchildren, Kathryne, Tripp, Wylan, Ava, Landon, Hunter, Kaiden, sisters, Anita Evans of Canton, Joyce (Bud) Mitstiffer of Myerstown, Beverly (Jim) Drake of Carlisle, several nieces, nephews, cousins, close neighbors and friends.
Besides his parents, He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Teresa (McIlwain) Brackman, a sister and two brothers in law, Marjorie (John) Yeager and Glen Evans.
In keeping with Charles’ wishes all services will be private. The Pepper Funeral Home and Cremation Facility, Inc., 578 Springbrook Drive, Canton, PA., is assisting the family with arrangements.
