In accordance with Betty’s expressed wishes family and friends gathered at LeRoy Cemetery for a graveside service with the Rev. Duane Taylor officiating, followed by interment.
On the evening of Tuesday, June 28th, 2016, longtime Canton resident Betty Louise (Miller) Johnson passed away unexpectedly at Memorial Hospital in Towanda. She was 76 years of age. Born July 28th, 1939 in Towanda and raised in French Asylum, she was the daughter of Franklin and Cora (Benjamin) Miller. Betty was a 1957 graduate of Towanda High School. Throughout her adult life she had been employed as a secretary at various area companies, such as Hess Farm Equipment, Canford Manufacturing, Fox Chase Farm, Towanda Wholesale and most notably the Swayze Folding Box Co. of Canton. Betty also volunteered as school librarian at Canton Elementary School. She was married to the late Murray E. Johnson, and together they raised a son and daughter and shared 37 years before Murray’s passing in 1996. Betty is survived by son, Steve (& Leslie) Johnson of Sinking Springs, PA, daughter Sandy (& Robert) Sherwood of Alba, brother David (& Susan) Miller of French Asylum, PA, sisters Janice Dennis and Marion (& Robert) Irvine, both of Macedonia, PA, Marlene (& Skip) Benjamin of French Asylum, grandsons Hunter and Dylan Johnson and her companion Ron Campbell of Towanda, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her late husband Murray, she was preceded in death by her parents Franklin and Cora Miller and brother-in-law Laurence Dennis.
