Barry Kyler was born in Sayre, PA on September 9, 1956. He was one of five children in the family of David Matthews Jr. of Canton and the late Shirley (Buck) Matthews.
On June 28, 1975, he married the former Barby May in Troy.
As a young man, Barry built upon a strong work ethic and his savvy for business to form the B. Matthews' Trucking Company in Roaring Branch. He also established the former Redline Raceway in Granville Township. With the support of family and friends, he operated weekend races for several years. Barry had an engaging, friendly personality; blessed with a welcoming manor which would put a person right at ease. Though he enjoyed his work very much, his family and times spent just being together was very important in his life. He also enjoyed camping and taking road trips in their R.V.
In addition to his father, surviving is his beloved wife of 41 years, Barby; sons; Barry Matthews Jr, Leroy, Brock (Billie) Matthews and Brett Matthews all of Canton; eight grandchildren; Erica Coles, Bobby Coles, Brock Matthews, Jr., Alissa Matthews, Byron Matthews, Gavin Matthews, Gabrielle and Brendan Matthews, four great grandchildren; Jericka, Nayeli, Bobby and Christian, two sisters; Melinda Matthews (and partner Joanne) of Ithaca, NY, Carla (Steve) Cain of Waverly, NY; his mother-in-law; Jeannette May of Canton, a sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law; Becky and Dr. Clarence Scott of Florida and Andy May, Canton; special niece; Jackie (John) Thompson, Ogdensburg and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
