Audrey Fitzwater Johnson, age 73, a well-known resident of Canton, passed away peacefully with her precious family beside her on May 24th, 2016. Mrs. Johnson was born April 27th, 1943 in Beech Flats, Canton Township, Pa. to Kenneth and Josephine (Brown) Fitzwater, along with her twin brother, Alden.
Audrey grew up on Lake Hill in the stone house that her father built, along with her cherished family. She was educated first in the one room schoolhouse in Beech Flats, and later Canton High School, graduating with the class of June 1961. Audrey was well loved by all who knew her. With her bright blue eyes and warm smile she was a great beauty and a classy lady. In June of 1963 Audrey married Noel E. Johnson, and soon after the couple relocated to Munich, Germany where Noel was stationed with the U. S. Army as part of the NATO peacekeeping forces. Some years later after returning home to Canton they settled into a comfortable life, and to their surprise and joy, welcomed their only child, daughter Noelle M. in 1974.
Audrey was baptized in the East Canton United Methodist Church. She was a talented artist, and many sought her work through area clubs and organizations, such as the Canton Rotary Club and the Canton Area School District. She also was an active volunteer for the American Cancer Society.

Mrs. Johnson was truly an appealing person and had many close friends and acquaintances. She always had coffee brewing for the many visitors who would drop by for her “table conversations.” She took great pride in her home and had a talent for decorating, along with her “Fitzwater Green Thumb,” keeping her flower beds pristine in spring and summer. She was well known for always keeping her back door open for the crowds of teenagers that frequented her home. She cherished the time spent with her daughter’s friends and grew to love them all dearly.
Mrs. Johnson is survived by her daughter Noelle J. Schoonover and son-in-law George W. Schoonover, III; four beloved grandchildren, twins Nicholas and Nathan, Joel and her special granddaughter Isabel Julia, all of Canton; her twin brother Alden (& Rosemary) Fitzwater, Canton; sister Norma (& Ted) Schmelzle, Roaring Branch; brother Donald (& Lynette) Fitzwater, Troy and Kermit Fitzwater, Syracuse, NY; sister-in-law Betty Fitzwater, Canton, along with several special nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, Noel E. Johnson, parents Kenneth and Josephine Fitzwater and brother LaRue Fitzwater and nephew Jordan Fitzwater.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 28th at Morse and Kleese Funeral Home, Canton. The family suggests that memorial contributions be directed to the Memory Lane Unit of Bradford County Manor, 15900 Rt. 6, Troy, Pa., 16947. (morseandkleesefuneralhome.com)
