Alice was born at home in Sheshequin Township on July 26, 1926, the third of six children to George F. Homan and Kathryn Murphy Homan. She was a graduate of Towanda High School class of 1943 and in early years was employed by the First National Bank in Towanda. In 1947 she married Paul F. Bustin and the couple was later blessed with five children. Following the untimely death of her husband in 1963, Alice sold their family dairy farm in Milan and in 1965 began a successful and dedicated career with the U.S. Postal Service as Post Master in Milan proudly serving the mailing needs of the Milan community for 37 years until her retirement in 2012. Alice was a faithful member of the Catholic Church since birth, most recently a parishioner at Ss. Peter and Paul Church in Towanda. She was also a member of the Legion of Mary at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Athens. She served as a volunteer at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre for many years until she was no longer able. Alice loved her family dearly and dedicated her life to raising her family. She enjoyed bowling for many years and later in life at age 60 became a golf enthusiast, playing golf with family and friends.
Surviving are daughters, Margaret "Peggy" Young, Troy, MaryLou (Michael) Allen, Athens, Nancy Bustin (Rick Callear and Tara Callear), Monroeton; son, Michael (Sheryl) Bustin, Lititz, PA; son-in-law, Frederick A. "Fred" Maynard, Monroeton; grandchildren, Jennifer (Chris) Page, Pine City, NY, Darin Young, Columbia Cross Roads, Robert W. (Kristine) Watkins, Towanda, Patrick A. (Tina) Maynard, Herrickville, Paul A. (Shannon) Maynard, Towanda, Lisa (Steve) Hawken, Campbell, NY, Lori (Gabe) Unger, Athens, Jessica Bustin, Brooklyn, NY, Allison Bustin, Costa Rica, Katelyn Bustin, Lititz,PA; great-grandchildren, Devin and Macey, Clayton and Carson, Lilly, Mallory and Emilie Jo, Mackenna, Marin and Mya, Lydia and Maggie, Stella and Zeke; sister, Rita May, Schenectady, NY; sister-in-law, Shirley Homan, Athens; brother-in-law, James F. Lenox, Lake Wesauking; and numerous special nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul F. Bustin in 1963; daughter, Ann Marie Maynard in 2012; grandson, Christopher Watkins; sister, Rose H. Lenox; brothers and sisters-in-law, Frank and Betty Homan, Thomas and Vi Homan; brother, Robert Homan; and a dear cousin, Lloyd Sullivan.
Burial was celebrated Monday, March 30, at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Towanda.
Interment followed in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Ulster, Pa.
Alice was generously committed to supporting organizations aimed at making the world a better place.
