Alice was born in Duryea, Luzerne County, a daughter of the late James and Adeline Bartuska Rittell.
Alice was an honors graduate of Towanda High School and continued her education at Misericordia University, majoring in language and education. She taught school in Rome, and served as a substitute teacher at St. Agnes School in Towanda.
On Aug. 7, 1948 Alice married John F. Grenell who preceded her in death on Aug. 17, 1985. Mrs. Grenell was employed with Social Services, Bradford County Child Welfare, and as a counselor for Vocational Rehabilitation in the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry for 25 years. She was a member of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Towanda, the Altar and Rosary Society, and was a CCD teacher. Alice was also a member of the Riverside Cemetery Association, the Bradford County Historical Society and was active in many community projects.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, John F. Grenell II, in September of 2012; and sisters, Jean Rowe in April of 2014 and Rose Shaffer in April of 1982.
Viewing was held Saturday, April 16 at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home 217 York Ave. Towanda, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Third St. Towanda. Burial followed in SS Peter and Paul Cemetery, North Towanda Township.
