Alice was born in LeRoy Township on May 13, 1926 at her grandparent, Chaapel’s home. She was the eldest and only daughter of Frank and Emily (Thomas) Chaapel.
In addition to her parents, Alice was predeceased by her husband, Paul Allen Owen, Jr., in 2005 after 56 years of marriage. Also predeceasing Alice are numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and her brother, Dean Chaapel.
Surviving are Alice’s three children: Marcia (Pete) Shinn, Allen and Pam (Shepard) Owen and Theodore (Ted) Owen all of the Canton area. Also surviving are Alice’s brothers, Joe and JoAnn Chaapel, Donald and Marjorie Chaapel and sister-in-law, Amber Chaapel all of the local Canton area. In addition are seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Alice loved life! She traveled extensively, gardened, maintained memberships in the North Union Christian Church, North Union Christian Women’s Fellowship, North Union Grange #784, Minnequa Grange #754, Canton Post #714 VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the Canton Garden Club, which she helped found in 1957. She loved to be active!
Alice loved people. Everyone she met was her friend. She endeared herself to all who knew her. Most of all, Alice loved her family. She was a blessing to all who knew her and she will be remembered with a smile on her face.
Celebration of life services were held at the Morse and Kleese Funeral Home in Canton, Pa., 40 N. Center St., on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2019 with visitation from 10-11 a.m., and funeral services at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the North Union Church of Christ at 15520 Rt. 414 Canton, Pa. 17724 or Canton Garden Club c/o Roxie Holmes 100 Cedar Ridge Dr. Apt. 205 Canton, Pa. 17724. Interment was with the immediate family only in the Grover Cemetery.
