Carolyn was born in Eldred, PA on December 27, 1927, daughter of the late Floyd and Eva Marie (Dempsey) Payne.
She was a graduate of Shinglehouse High School and received a B.S in Elementary Education from Mansfield University. Carolyn and Richard were married on August 30, 1947 and celebrated 65 years of marriage together.
The funeral services were held October 24 at the First Baptist Church of Troy, with the Reverend Garry Zuber officiating.
Interment followed in the Sabinsville Cemetery, Sabinsville, PA.
Carolyn was retired from the Troy Area School District following 25 years of teaching in the Northern Tioga and Troy Area School Districts. She is fondly remembered by many of her fourth grade students who were quick to tell a story about being in her classroom.
Her memberships and achievements included the Troy Baptist Church, PASR, Thursday Study Club, Sunday School Teacher, ABW Ministry, Bible School Teacher, playing in the Baptist Pops, choir and the Thursday Bridge Club.
Carolyn was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who gave so much to her family and church. She will be missed very much by her family and many friends.
Survivors include her loving children; daughter Linda (Alson) Nickerson, Troy; sons, Thomas (Jeanne) Chappell, Coudersport, Steven (Jody) Chappell, Mansfield; grandchildren, Rebecca, Jill, Sarah Jo, Terra Lynn, Zachary, Desirae; great-grandchildren, Madison, Allison, Izabella, Elena; sister June Rosetti, Olean; brother and sister-in-law, James (Gerry) Payne, Ohio; sister Diane (Juan) Nazario, Jamestown, NY; brother-in-law Lewis (Marcia) Chappell, Tioga; sister-in-law Joann Chappell, Troy, many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by brother and sister-in-law Floyd (Donna) Payne, sister Marjorie Kelly, brother and sister-in-law Harold (Thelma) Payne, infant twin sisters, sister-in- law and brother-in-law Arthur and Alice Brown and brother-in-law Gerald Chappell.
