On May 20, 2015 at approximately 7:44 a.m., Canton Borough Police were called to a two car motor vehicle accident in front of the Canton High School. Police arrived to find both vehicles had been removed from the point of impact.
On May 21, 2015 at approximately 3:49 p.m., Sergeant Kurtz of the Canton Borough Police Department was dispatched to an MVA where a young boy was hit by a vehicle on Troy Street near the Dandy Mini Mart. Once on the scene, Sergeant Kurtz observed a young boy lying in the roadway and was being treated by EMT’s. The young boy’s first name is Nolan. He is 7 years old. Sergeant Kurtz observed as he approached the boy that he was talking to the EMT’s, knew his name and said he had no pain.
The Oscoluwa Engine & Hose Auxiliary held their monthly meeting May 13th at the fire house with 9 members present.
Meeting called to order by the President Berni Hornung followed by the roll call, pledge of allegiance, and The Lord's Prayer. A thoughtful lesson was read by the Chaplin. The Secretary and Treasurer's Report were given by the officers and approved by all. Scripture contains many words to describe God. They occur throughout the Bible. In Psalm 36 there are four short sentences that contain four words to describe God’s greatness: Love, faithfulness, righteousness and justice. Then, there is one short phrase that tells us how He applies those characteristics: He preserves both man and beast. Because of His character, God holds all of His creation together. Creation is because of Him. Local United Methodist Churches will be hosting events to train their members to insure that sanctuaries remain places of safety and protection for our young participants. This training also provides insights into the reason for the the new emphasis on keeping every community interaction a safe one for all involved. This training is required for all who work with children and youth in a United Methodist setting.
Yesterday, March 24 at 3:pm at the Towanda Universalist Unitarian Fellowship on Second Street in Towanda, welcomed Rev. (CPT) David Pyle to our fellowship. Rev Pyle is a a Army Reservist Chaplain, a UU Minister and the Executive Director of the Joseph Priestly District of the UUA. Wearing full US Army Reserve dress uniform, he spoke eloquently and passionately about the role of the Chaplain in the military and his experiences as he serves and ministers as a chaplain in the armed forces. Rev. Pyle conducts funerals and memorial services, and spoke about a time when he was in the Army Graduate School, and had shadowed the Military Chaplains who work tirelessly at Arlington National Cemetery providing several formal military funeral services a day for 4 – 5 days a week. He described the admirable devotion and tirelessness of these highly trained chaplains. On May 12, the Troy Chamber of Commerce hosted a "Chamber Mixer" at 1110 West Main in Troy. The gathering gave members of Chambers of Commerce from Troy, Canton, Central Bradford, Mansfield, Greater Valley and Wellsboro the opportunity to visit Troy and to get acquainted and to share ideas on promoting their communities and events.
Fifty-five people attended, including representatives from Elmira Business Institute and the Elmira Jackals. Being the election season, there also were a few elected officials and candidates. This is the first in a projected series of mixers to be held in the home communities of each of the Chambers. Members hope to share ideas and to learn more about the other communities in the area with the purpose of giving a boost to local businesses and events. Father Edward L. Michelini, pastor and a group of individuals from SS. Peter and Paul’s in Towanda have been meeting since last fall to plan the activities that will be held to celebrate the 175th anniversary of the founding of the parish in 1841. The construction of the North Branch Canal in Bradford County brought with it many Irish immigrants who were not so easily persuaded to come to the area without knowledge that there would be a Roman Catholic priest in the vicinity that would make sure that the canal contractors were honest with them. |
