The Wells-Jackson Lions Club is sponsoring a chicken-and-biscuits benefit dinner on Friday, October 23, 2015, from 5-7 p.m. at the Millerton Wesleyan Church, 5174 Main Street, Millerton, PA. This dinner, open to the public, is for the benefit of Jeff and Betty Garrison who are in need of help with medical bills after their recent hospitalizations. The cost of $8.00 and $7.50 for children and seniors includes beverage and dessert. Eat in or take out.
The Craftsmen of the Endless Mountains, are gearing up for their "Flaming Foliage Festival" scheduled for Oct. 3rd and Oct. 4th at the Sullivan County Fairgrounds, Forksville, PA.
This year, there will be more vendors then ever that have the gift of making and creating handmade arts and craft. The Endless Mo. Crafters decided to open up their festival by looking beyond their group of talented craftsmen and artisans to bring you even more "handmade" products and items. Some of the new items are matted photos of Pennsylvania, hand knitted alpaca items, felting items, blankets. Some new wood crafts include pole critters, unusual bird feeders, and wood crafts. Hand painted wooden tractors and wheels plus unusual carved birds, lathe bowls, and intarscia. 18" and other baby doll clothes, hand made porcelain dolls from Clovis Hunter Dolls. Also one of a kind jewelry, refurbished wood items, hand made wreaths, down home unique flavors of homemade jams and jellies. Also watch for the unusual items at the "Witch House Designs". They do vintage style paper decorations, holiday art dolls, 3D printed candy containers and jewelry. Many new back country crafts made from old barn boards. On Sunday, Aug. 30th, from 12:00 to 5:00 p.m. The Endless Mountains War Memorial Museum, in Sonestown, will remember the "Victory in the Pacific" that brought the ultimate end to the 2nd World War. At 12:30 p.m. there will be a dedication to two WWII Pacific Veterans, who are museum members, and then at 1:00 pm honored speaker, Richard "Dick" Donald will speak about his experiences in the Pacific campaign in WWII. The Farmhands Bluegrass Quartet is coming to perform at a Concert on the Green in East Smithfield, Saturday, August 22, at 6 p.m. This award-winning bluegrass gospel band from Nashville, TN, will share their ministry at a concert on the green, weather permitting, in downtown East Smithfield, PA. Bring a lawn chair or blanket. In case of inclement weather, the concert will be held in the Federated Church sanctuary. A love offering will be received to benefit the group.
The Farm Hands Bluegrass Quartet was recently awarded the 2015 Bluegrass Gospel Band and Entertainer of the Year awards. Composer, performer, student and Pennsylvania native Hanako Henty will be performing on piano, this Thursday, July 30, at 7:30 p.m. at the Keystone Theater in Towanda as part of the 2015 Endless Mountain Music Festival.
Originally from Towanda, Henty is currently working on her second master’s degree at the University of Miami, Florida, where she studies musicology, performs, and works as a teaching assistant at the Frost School of Music. In 2013, she graduated as an outstanding senior from Mansfield University of Pennsylvania with a degree in piano performance. "I am excited to return to Towanda to perform," she said. Proud Supporter of the Wounded Warrior Project - American Tribute I – 7:30 p.m., Mansfield University’s Steadman Theatre – The Festival Symphony Orchestra will perform “Let the River be Unbroken” with its composer George Tsontakis serving as a narrator and present the world premiere of “Suite No. 1 for Bandoneon and Orchestra” with its composer Emmanuel Trifilio on bandoneon, Cristian Perez, guitar and Lukasz Szyrner, cello. Selections by two other composers will also be performed. The family band “The Williamson Branch” is coming to perform at a Concert on the Green in East Smithfield, July 25, at 6 p.m. This gospel bluegrass band will share their ministry at a concert on the green, weather permitting, in downtown East Smithfield, PA. On August 22, the Canton Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ) will be sponsoring a bus trip to the Niagara Falls, NY. This would be a great opportunity to end your summer on a high note.
