The Canton Township Board of Supervisors held its October meeting with Chairman Gary Ferguson, Supervisors Jasper Smith and Mark McMurray, Secretary Elnor Blaney, Road Foreman Bob Petrowski and Tax Collector Michele Deeghan.
The minutes of the previous meeting were approved. Mrs. Deeghan submitted a report with $1,742.13 in real estate taxes. Gary & Judy Brown were granted VA exemption status. Bradford County refunded the county’s portion of their taxes and tonight the Supervisors voted to refund the township’s share, $236.60. The treasurer’s report was approved with these balances: General Fund, $55,148.20; Liquid Fuels, $121,878.41; EZ Access CD, $75,709.04; 36-month Fix CD, $50,758.00; Impact Fee/Capital Reserve, $141,723.98; Towanda Creek Watershed, $5.00; Fire Escrow Insurance, $8,000. The escrow account is to cover demolition from a recent fire. The previous amount in the fire escrow account was released after the completion of a demolition of the Dohrman property. The minutes of the July meeting were approved. Mrs. Deeghan submitted her report, including collections of $1,597.26. The Supervisors unanimously approved an ordinance under the Local Government Unit Debt Act for a loan through PennVest for additional funding for the Canton Borough Authority wastewater treatment plant upgrade project in the amount of $582.112.75, which is the township's share (6.56%) of the additional amount borrowed. The Township is the legal guarantor of its share of the amount, and Canton Borough is guarantor of the remaining 93.44%. Mr. Ferguson and Ms. Blaney signed the relevant documents after the meeting. The Canton Township Supervisors held their July meeting with Chairman Gary Ferguson, Supervisors Jasper Smith and Mark McMurray, Secretary Elnor Blaney, Road Foreman Bob Petrowski, and Tax Collector Michelle Deeghan.
The Township has expressed interest in purchasing an excavator to be used for ditch work, mowing and similar tasks that the backhoe is not suited for due to its size. At tonight's meetings representatives from dealers for JCB and Caterpillar were present to discuss their machines and to answer questions from the Supervisors. Each had sent machines to the township which were used by Mr. Petrowski and Assistant Cale Holmes for demonstrations. Mr. Petrowski said, "We appreciate you letting us use them. Both did excellent jobs. Both are good machines, both performed very well; we both like both of them." Mr. Ferguson said that the Supervisors would discuss the matter. The Canton Township Board of Supervisors held its June meeting with Chairman Gary Ferguson and Supervisors Jasper Smith and Mark McMurray, Secretary Elnor Blaney, Road Foreman Bob Petrowski, Tax Collector Michelle Deeghan, Emergency Management Coordinator, Ray Miller.
The Supervisors approved the minutes of the May meeting. There was a visitor from Warner Tractor who provided information on an excavator. The township is considering purchasing a mini-excavator to be used on certain projects and to save wear and tear on the backhoe. Mr. Ferguson said the information was appreciated and would be reviewed but no decision would be made at tonight's meeting. On June 1, the Canton Township Supervisors voted to make a donation of $1,500 to Canton Borough for the War Memorial Pool and a donation of $1,000 to the Green Free Library.

Tom Close of MC Insurance Associates was a visitor. He reviewed the township's insurance package, which will renew of May 17. He explained major aspects of the package and highlighted changes in coverages. This will cover auto, vehicle, property, public officials, workers compensation, and general liability. Total cost is $15,369, which is around $800 less than the previous year. The Canton Township Board of Supervisors held its March meeting with Chairman Gary Ferguson, Supervisors Jasper Smith and Mark McMurray, Secretary Elnor Blaney, Road Foreman Bob Petrowski, Tax Collector Michelle Deeghan, and EMC Ray Miller and an audience of four.
