Kenny Biggs sold goodies to raise funds for his trip to Mexico; John Carpenter sold Piatt Road honey products; Ray Chaapel had mousetraps, beets and potatoes The Farmers' Market will return October 3 from 8 am to noon in Canton's Main St. Park. People with baked goods, garden or farm produce, craft items or similar wares are invited to set up. There is no booth fee. Call 570-673-5151 for information. No yard sale items, please. The Farmers' Market is sponsored by the Canton Area Chamber of Commerce. It may have been because of the threat of rain, or because the sidewalk was torn up by the PennDOT project on Main Street, but there were only three vendors at the Canton Farmers' Market on September 12.
Kenny Biggs and his family sold goodies to raise funds for an educational trip to Mexico; The Canton Area Chamber of Commerce held its September meeting at First Citizens Community Bank with President Eric Schoonover conducting the meeting. In keeping with the recent rotation of morning and noon meetings, today's meeting began at 8:30 am.
Members reported news: Sweet Tooth is starting work on "Small Business Saturday" and will have a booth at the Apple 'n Cheese Festival for the first time. Chemung Canal Trust Co. manager Kim Bailey will be among those in a "mock jail" on September 19 to raise funds for breast cancer research. The VIA is starting its new meeting year. Normally the group does not meet over summer but next year will not meet in January or February. The Housing Authority is planning a nutrition event at McCallum Manor. Five vendors were selling at the Canton Farmers' Market on August 29. It was a pleasant day and everyone was having a good time.

John Carpenter had his Piatt Road Honey; Marlene Boyce had blueberries; the ladies from Country Delights were selling bread, pies and baked goods; The Beidler family had blueberries, watermelons, cantaloupes; Kenny Biggs was raising funds for an educational trip to Mexico; The Canton Area Chamber of Commerce held its August meeting at Minnequa Springs Park in Canton Township. For the past few years the Chamber has enjoyed a picnic at the park, which is very well-maintained and attractive.
President Eric Schoonover conducted the meeting. Members gave business updates: "Thursdays at the Rialto" will resume on September 17 with Devon Franks, who is from Troy. The Rialto will soon host "two of the biggest movies of the summer" Jurassic World and Inside Out, which will return to the theatre this summer. Passion Life Wellness has a "referral rewards program." Dr. Nikki Rook has a new piece of equipment at Endless Mts. Eye Care. It helps detect Macular Degeneration. The VIA has met this summer but will take a break in January and February. On Friday, August 7th the Canton Area Chamber of Commerce will sponsor its annual "Canton's Classic Car Show" from 6 pm to 8 pm. The event will be held in Main Street Park, Canton with cars parked in the rear parking lot of Chemung Canal Trust & Main Street Park.
