TROY — Two Troy High School seniors were recently honored at the Troy Vets Club.
On Thursday, May 13, Layne Walmsley and Miguel Ruiz were promoted to the rank of E-3 from E-1, which is a Private First Class in the Army before each will leave for their initial entry training.
“To earn this rank prior to leaving, they both had to exhibit academic, physical, and leadership skills consisting of going above and beyond the minimal physical testing standards and completing all required and optional training with above average scores,” said SFC Chance Hendrix, Station Commander of the Towanda Recruiting Station.
“Both of these Future Soldiers have separated themselves from their peers by being a part of 3 of 108 students to enlist in the Army from the Troy Area. Through their hard work, dedication, and commitment to excellence they have also become the first Future Soldiers to get promoted to this rank before shipping to IET since 2016.”
Walmsley is currently enlisted as an Infantryman and leaves on June 21. Ruiz is currently enlisted as a Combat Medic and leaves June 28.
