TROY — The Troy Veterinary Clinic held its annual equine clinic on Saturday, March 26.
The equine clinic, head by Dr. Seanna Brown, is to help local farmers bring in their horses for vaccines at a reduced cost and free the time for veterinarians at the clinic from travelling to the farm to perform the vaccinations. The clinic is in its fifth year.
Dr. Brown Graduated from the VA-MD Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in 1987. After practicing on her own, she joined the Troy Veterinary Clinic in 2000.
She works primarily with large animals, but also works at the small animal clinic once a week. She especially enjoys working in the field of reproduction.
“We don’t typically do any visits on Saturdays, which is when people have off, so it’s a chance for people to bring their horses in on their day off,” said Meghan Trenholm, Veterinary Assistant. “We also do blood draws for clients if necessary. It’s a good day and we get to meet everyone.”
Trenholm and Marcia Wilcox, Secretary for the large animal clinic, assisted Dr. Brown with anything she may need during the clinic.
Aside from the vaccines and blood draws, the clinic is also useful for fecal testing, which is testing for parasites. Clients also have the option to test for a metabolic panel or Lyme Disease.
“It’s pretty quick. It takes about 15 minutes per horse,” said Trenholm. “Even for the more ‘difficult’ horses. It would normally take us about an hour or two to travel to them.”
Horse care is offered throughout the year. Troy Veterinary Clinic is located at 15579 PA-14, just outside of Alba. They treat both small and larger animals.
This year, the Vet Clinic treated about 30 horses for its clinic.
