Recently, Dean and Carolyn Arnold, of Asylum Township, Bradford County, gave the Troy Historical Society a donation of $1,000 for the purchase of two windows in the Troy Sale Barn. One window was in memory of Fay L. and Ruth Wells Arnold and the second in memory of Fred C. and Janie Barrett. After the sale barn’s windows are installed, a brass tag, with the name of the donee, will be placed under each window. |
In addition to the monetary donation, the Arnolds have also donated a tri-axle load of hemlock logs. Cummings Lumber Company donated the truck and the time of the driver, Willie Bruhl, to pick up the logs and deliver them to the Rough and Ready Saw Mill, on Armenia Mountain. After the logs are cut the boards will be used on the inside walls of the Troy Sale Barn.
The Troy Historical Society is awaiting the architect’s approval of the location of bathrooms and kitchen to be installed at the sale barn and then the inspector’s approval of the plans.
There are still eight of the $5,000 Founder Chairs remaining. A photograph of the twenty original founders from 1920 will be hung above the pictures and names of the twenty new founders, who helped to save the sale barn from the destruction crew. A Founder Chair is often given in memory of parents or person that made an impression on the donator’s life.
The Historical Society has placed a thermometer, on the lawn of the Troy Borough Hall, which is now registering slightly over $200,000, with the majority of this money coming from donors who want to see the sale barn preserved.
