The the monthly meeting of the Troy Chamber of Commerce, the 20 members present approved the minutes and treasurer's report and discussed the following events: Playing cards which feature historical sites and figures from Bradford County, which are made by the Bradford County Historical Society are on sale at the Sale Barn and around town. A new edition will be coming in October. Orders were taken for any member who might like them. Several members announced upcoming events which are being held in their businesses: Elmira College hosted an Adult learning open house and added several courses to the curriculum; Canton will host a Car Show on Friday with the Boy Scouts holding their Pinewood Derby; Paws for Cause Motorcycle run was held; there is a great sale at Oscar's Flooring; In September, the Wyalusing Wine Festival will be held; Riverfest in Towanda was held; and Solid Ground will be doing snow plowing this year. Robyn Chamberlain, the new Executive Director of the Bradford County Tourism Agency, spoke about county tourism. She noted that she needs help with her office decor; the new logo is ready; she needs banners; and she hopes to build relationship between all local chambers; she would also like to map out the county; and make sure "every business feels they have a place to go so they can grow;" She noted that all funding for everything done in the Tourism office comes from room taxes. Ms. Chamberlain was the representative on the Tourism Board and since she is now the chairman, she no longer can represent Troy. Veronica Seymour was chosen to replace Ms. Chamberlain on the board. Deb Harer mentioned that every third Thursday, the State Farm Office in Troy holds a special day. She invited everyone to stop by starting at 10 am until closing. The Troy Sale Barn report was given by Bill Brasington. He said it is a work in progress. The 2015 building which the Chamber sells will feature the Sale Barn; the 2015 ornament features CopperTree which is celebrating its 20th anniversary. It is hoped that the ornament will be here in time for the Heritage Festival. Speaking of the Heritage Festival, several members volunteered to man the Chamber booth where visitors can purchase ornaments and other Chamber merchandise. It will be held September 19-20. The newly printed brochure was distributed. Rachel Rossiter and Elizabeth Bower were thanked for all their hard work. President Krystle Bristol noted "they did a great job." Brochures will be located at several businesses in Troy. It was suggested that the Person of the Year Committee, and event committees get together to discuss the upcoming events such as the Halloween Parade,Hometown Christmas and other local activities. Hometown Heroes banner applications will be available in October. Heather Machmer is the chairperson of committee. A guest speaker from Chemung Canal Trust Company will be at the September meeting. |
It's two boys! Julie Sturzen, who is the Guthrie Troy Hospital representative at the Troy Chamber of Commerce on the left and Rachel Rossiter, Animal Care Sanctuary representative and Chamber Secretary are both expecting babies. Rachel's little boy is due at the end of August and Julie's little boy is due in November. The Chamber held a mini baby shower for both and all enjoyed a delicious cake after the meeting.
