CANTON — Canton Township held another special meeting on March 15. The township had received an insurance check for the value of the building that was destroyed by the fire in December.
The initial value of the check was $356,217.52. The independent adjuster at Adjuster’s International was sent a copy of the valuation. The next step will be for the adjuster to formulate their own value of the destroyed building and begin negotiating with the insurance company on a settlement.
The township board has also received a contract from architect Larry Foor.
Foor’s lump sum cost for designing the building would top out at $53,000 plus any reimbursement. The township still has to decide on the exact building technique, a wooden pole building or a steel framed one.
Having seen a mockup of a steel frame building and a ballpark cost estimate from Rich Bardo, the township will meet with a representative from Morton Buildings to discuss the possibility of using a wood frame on Friday, March 19.
The insurance adjuster for the vehicles lost in the fire sent checks to the township for the value of the 2019 Ford F-550 truck and the 2007 Volvo. The Ford was valued at $90,000 and the Volvo at $75,000.
The equipment salvager for the insurance company was expected Tuesday March 16th to evaluate the large equipment.
Due to scheduling conflicts, the Township supervisors will not hold a special meeting next Monday but instead meet Tuesday, March 23, at 8 p.m..
