The 2015 Tioga County Fair Queen will be awarded a $500 Scholarship and will be eligible to represent Tioga County at the annual Pennsylvania State Fair Convention held in Hershey in January 2016. At the completion of the 2015 Tioga County Fair Queen’s reign, providing she has completed the year in good standing, she will be awarded a $500.00 cash prize sponsored by Williams Oil and Propane.
The Tioga County Fair Queen runner-up will be awarded $200, or if there are first alternate and second alternate, they will split the $200.
Dunham’s Department Store in Wellsboro, PA, will sponsor the 2015 Tioga County Fair Queen with a $250.00 gift card towards the purchase of gowns or business attire for competition in the annual Pennsylvania State Fair Queen Contest at the State Fair Convention. The winner of the State Contest will receive a Scholarship of $250 and reign as Pennsylvania’s Fair Queen.
Open to Tioga County residents only, contestants must be single, never been married, have no children, and not marry or become pregnant during her reign. Past local or state winners are not eligible.
Tioga County Fair Queen must be available to reign at the 2015 Tioga County Fair from August 10 through August 15. Meeting people and having fun are all part of the Fair Queen’s agenda as her duties range from passing out ribbons and trophies to welcoming dignitaries visiting the Tioga County Fair.
The winner must also be willing to donate 2 hours of volunteer service to the fair and be available and willing to promote the Tioga County Fair at suitable events throughout her reigning year and be available to participate in the State Fair Queen Contest in Hershey in January 2016.
Contestants must complete and submit a Fair Queen Application, along with a recent photograph and a brief autobiography (for MC's use only) on a 3" x 5" card.
Entries, postmarked no later than July 25, 2015, are sent to Jennifer Thomas-Gluszczak, 1018 E. Hill Road, Covington, PA 16917.
Judging is based on an essay written in 300 words or less on “What My Fair Means to My Community.” Candidates will be expected to present a 3-5 minute speech on the topic “Why You Should Come to My Fair.” Other qualities judged will be poise, neatness and cleanliness, appearance, and the ability to communicate (speaking ability and knowledge of fairs). During the stage/interview portion of the pageant, candidates will be judged on their ability to answer impromptu questions. Question may be on fair, agriculture, recent news, or the candidate’s integrity.
Judging will take place on the Tioga County Fair Grounds in the Main Building on Sunday, August 9, 2015, 3:00 p.m. The Queen will be crowned the same day at 6:00 p.m.
