“Obey them not only to win their favor when their eye is on you.” Many have worked only to be seen but when no one is watching they slack off. This will not win the favor of the master or employer. The best way is to put your whole heart into the job no matter how menial it is. There are those who will tell you to slow down in order to make the job last longer, but do not do this. If you do, you are actually exhibiting a form of hypocrisy and in the end, you will be held accountable. “Eyeservice” is doing your best only when someone is watching you. D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones in his book, “Life in the Spirit in Marriage, Home and Work,” wrote, “The Apostle is condemning the attitude that is merely concerned to keep (with staying) out of trouble and to keep things going, the attitude that is not interested in the work at all, not concerned to do it, in fact concerned to do the very minimum possible, the attitude of the man who only works when he is watched.” This is giving eyeservice.
You are “doing the will of God from your heart.” You are doing this from your very being. Giving your full-hearted devotion to your responsibility is the very opposite of listlessness. In order to do the will of God, you must know what it is and the only way you can is by studying His Word thoroughly; to know the truth. Paul, writing to the Christians at Corinth wrote, “Each one should remain in the situation which he was in when God called him. Were you a slave when you were called? Don’t let it trouble you—although if you can gain your freedom, do so. For he who was a slave when he was called by the Lord is the Lord’s freedom; similarly, he who was a free man when he was called is Christ’s slave.” First Corinthians 7:20-22. Remember as a Christian employee you are working for the Lord Jesus Christ.
THINK CAREFULLY IF YOU ARE DOING YOUR BEST AS YOU WORK FOR YOUR EMPLOYER!!!
