March 16 was the day I remember realizing that 2020 would change for good.
A couple weeks prior I remember attending the 2020 PIAA state wrestling tournament amidst growing fears of a new virus that had made its way to America. I recall thinking to myself that if I was going to catch this virus, it would be while I was down in Hershey. I remember having such an anxiety about catching a “deadly” virus that I almost couldn’t think of anything else.
I sit here today, blessed to say that no one in my family or social circle have (so far) contracted Covid-19. Others cannot say the same thing and my thoughts and prayers are with them.
As the last six weeks transpired, it went from keeping myself and family in quarantine to making sure I stayed in check mentally.
I, like many other residents of our area, are confused by the requirements of the “green phase.” At first all it said was follow CDC guidelines and that tough mitigation would be lifted. Now it seems that is not going to be the case.
Green has now turned from a return to normal to what Governor Wolf and Rachael Levine are calling a “new normal.” As far as I am concerned our constitution does not recognize Wolf’s authority on this matter. Green phase could still have prolonged effects on our economy that are not good.
Restaurants and hair salons can only be at 50 percent capacity. This will still slow down business and creates unnecessary hassle for the business owners. What’s next? Will we be required to wear face masks in restaurants? When does the absurdity stop?
When you look at the data that is coming out, we have successfully flattened the curve while stifling the great American economy. Wolf and other Governors have gone into prevention mode which can’t happen.
If any one reading this wanted to move from capitalism into a socialist platform for our economy, can I ask what are your thoughts?
The president is strongly encouraging governors to let their economies reopen as soon as possible.
One way or the other something will have to give. It will be either the politicians in our country or we the people.
