The Troy Historical Society has received donations for the restoration of the sale barn in many ways. Donations of time spent volunteering has been invaluable. Recently, a donation of $1,000 was received from a local business in response to letters sent out requesting donations. Several weeks ago, I spent an afternoon knocking on doors and asking for donations. One door was opened by a very sweet elderly (95 years old) lady. She invited me in and I explained why I was there. She told me that her husband, who passed away, had taken livestock to the sale barn. Although this nice lady lived on a fixed income, she made a donation of $20. I gave her a receipt and thanked her. |
This week when I stopped to buy a newspaper the young woman at the desk gave me a check for the Troy Sale Barn. It seems that Todd Barrett, of Granville Summit, and Mike Barrett, of Springfield, had a contest to see who could grow the best beard. It was a friendly contest, which attracted many other men to also join in. When the contest was over Ron and Denise Slingerland, assisted by Chuck Woodward, hosted a bearded party, with Marvin Spencer and Jason George donating their barbering services. The contest raised $900, which was donated to the Troy Sale Barn’s Restoration Fund in memory of Wayne Barrett and Lloyd Barrett.
Many people have said that they intend to make a donation but have not done so as yet. The Historical Society would like you to know that even a small donation will be greatly appreciated. All donations will help us reach our goal.
Do stop in at the sale barn and view the progress we have made.
